Allan McLaughlin - An Interview

Q: Collagen is quite a specific ingredient - how did you discover the benefits of Collagen?
My career started in the music industry and prolonged periods of time under dehydrating stage lights and a demanding lifestyle resulted in problematic skin. In addition to that I still suffered pain to my knee from a childhood injury and was in conversation with specialists about alternatives to pain killers. This combined with an interest in skincare remedies and trialling all types of products lead to the discovery of the positive benefits of collagen. I knew that 50% of body cartilage is collagen and as collagen levels depleted at a rate of 1.5% every year after the age of 25, any introduction into the body would promote beneficial results. At the time collagen was administered through injections into the body and it made me question if it could be as beneficial if applied to the skin or ingested into the body.

Q: What made you realise that there was a gap in the market for a product like this?
At the time, there weren't any collagen capsule based products that existed that had been specifically created to nourish and regenerate the skin. My investigations lead to the further discovery that the purity and grade of collagen used made a vast difference to the direct results of product use. I teamed up with a leading laboratory, who has been creating skincare formulations for over 45 years and we created the first Purelogicol collagen capsule supplement for skin, hair, nails and joints.

Q: What are your personal qualities?
I have a very strong belief in delivering my personal best everyday and am passionate about my work. Honesty and integrity are two beliefs I live by and these values are instilled throughout the company. Third person: Allan is creative, energetic and a visionary. Hardworking and tenacious, he doesn't give up easily and has the uncanny knack of connecting with people totally, even in a busy international working environment.

Q: Which of these qualities are reflected in the ethos of the company? i.e. Integrity, real product and produce real results, etc.
I believe in having total involvement in my company. Purelogicol produce products that honest and deliver the best. We listen to our customers and take on board what they have to say, and although I do not take every call that is put through to our customer services department, I make a point of noting all the enquiries that come in.

Q: What was the most exciting part of the creation of Purelogicol?
For me one of the most exciting parts of the creating Purelogicol has been being involved in the product branding & design. I have very strong creative instincts and it has been challenging and extremely satisfying to see something envisaged in my mind through to finished production. In addition to that, it has been very fulfilling to hear the positive feedback we receive from our customers and clients after they have used the product and are beginning to see the results.

Q: How did you first start to market / sell the brand?
After I had created the first Purelogicol product, the Body Supplement, I started gaining interest from press coverage and attending the beauty shows. Once people had tried and experiences the benefits, the company began to gain momentum.

Q: What was the feedback from users, retailers?
Very positive and they almost take a personal pride in having discovered the brand - especially when they experience the benefits.

Q: How many distributors do you have at present? (We do not need names)
We are currently in partnership with 14 international distributors. With a strategic international expansion in mind, we wanted to make sure we were working with the right partners to take the company forward. To date we have been very lucky as our distributors are very enthusiastic and supportive of Purelogicol and to a certain degree responsible for the success of the company.� 

Q: What is your attitude towards work / how are you at work?
I enjoy working, especially as my involvement tends to be more creative working with the product development, design & branding and PR teams. I also believe that people are always more productive if the working environment is fun. Our teams work very hard as we are very demanding as a fast growing young company. However I make a point of acknowledging hard work and I respect my fellow team members.

Q: What are the key ingredients that have made your company a success?
Purelogicol has been so successful because we believe in integrity and produce honest products.

Q: What are you different to any other company out there?
I think Purelogicol are different because they listen and respond to their customers. We are constantly tweaking and refining our products and develop products that work, and as we are not a huge multi layered corporation where information can get lost in red tape, we can benefit from a quick turnaround.

Q: What are the plans for the company?
In addition to an international launch strategy, we are finalising plans for further Purelogicol products launches in the next 12 month. We continue to develop a close relationship with our end users and keep on the forefront of new beauty / skin formulation/ technology discoveries

Q: What strategic moves have been taken / people put in place to make this happen
Purelogicol® work with top industry consultant as required and have worked with agencies to create a brand identity that reflects that Purelogicol values and commands a premium positioning. Jenny Pabila has also joined our team as a PR consultant and has over 10 years of cosmetic pr experience working on agency accounts ranging from Boots No7 & 17, Jergens to an in-house PR role at Molton Brown.

Q: Which other products are in the process of planning?
I can't say too much at this point, however we can confirm that we will be adding to our skincare line.
