Many people believe that age spots are just inevitable, and rather unattractive, signs of aging skin.
Age spots are those small brown patches that appear on our arms, hands and chest. They usually make their first appearance from the thirties and forties onwards.
However, are you aware that age spots are not really the result of aging?
Also, did you know that if you have them, there are things you can do to not only get rid of them but to stop them coming back too?
Most people start seeing age spots from their thirties; some people don’t see them start until their forties. Age spots are a result of living longer and come from sun exposure, so if you were to live to a hundred years old and never saw the sun, then you would never get age spots, although you might live a boring life!
Most age spots are harmless, however, it is always worth keeping an eye on them because they can be confused with melanoma. Your doctor will be able to advise you.
Skin blemishes bother most people and age spots are associated with aging, which often makes people feel self-conscious. However, skin care products such as anti-aging cream can help. Many anti aging creams contain a skin lightening agent, such as Retinol in high doses or natural extracts such as liquorice. These help to reduce the appearance of sun spots over time.
